KEY TRENDS

EXCEEDING CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS

Access

1. GET BEYOND THE SCREEN

Journey outside of the website, your content is being accessed differently. With the spawn of IoT (Internet of Things) products in the marketplace such as Google, Alexa, and improved voice interfaces on our devices like Siri, voice is trending again. Products are making the most of the human experience by removing the screen all together.

HOW DRUPAL SUPPORTS IoT

Voice assistants are the next wave of accessing information. Interfaces like Google Assistant and Alexa rely heavily on voice queries, similar to how you would search the web.

Drupal has a focus on making content, machine-consumable. For example, a metadata schema is a controlled set of tags that lets outside users and programs automatically consume and repackage your information. This means when search engines view your page they are not just regurgitating your content but serving it up with context.

Similarly, Alexa and Siri rely on skills and tasks that need that context through controlled vocabularies, metadata structures and schemas. The ability to structure Drupal sets you up for success for the ongoing advancement of the IoT.

PERFORMANCE

2. MANAGING EXPECTATIONS

Your user is expecting a quick journey. It’s no surprise that performance is still essential, as our need to capture attention becomes more competitive. The more advanced technology becomes, the higher the expectation we have for performance of everything else is. Delivering on the nuanced user experience means spending time delivering on the details.

Deliver on the Experience of Waiting

A key UI trend we’ve seen is delivering on the experience of waiting. By giving the user cues that content is coming and what it looks like, they are progressively engaged allowing you to hold their attention through key moments, and deliver the emotional outcome of a positive experience.

Instant Search UI Trend

Focused on providing potential students the most informative information on college and scholarships was key for cappex.com. With hundreds of thousands of scholarships and thousands of colleges with all their own information, the performance of the ability to search was a significant point of conversation. An audience used to instant gratification and a boatload a data, instant search was the only way to go. With another dedicated search engine driving results, we integrated Drupal with Algolia. Students were free to filter, sort and search with almost instantaneous results and get them that much faster to converting to their next step.

Figo has always been loyal to its roots of providing simple and user focused information and tools to their users. Having developed their own Pet Cloud App, showcasing that tier of customer support was critical on their site. Flat graphics and bullets wouldn’t do the app justice. WCAG

Making your website accessible to all users is always a good practice. Setting aside the morality of inclusive design, organizations who neglect accessibility concerns may be at legal risk.

With enforcement actions proliferating, staying ahead of the law and adhering to the widely accepted WCAG 2.0 is a best practice. At Duo, we can perform a full audit against WCAG 2.0 standards, from text and images to more in-depth areas such as UI, navigability and programming.
