Understand and Implement Robust UX Design to Drive Growth

DRUPAL WITHOUT LIMITS

The world is more connected than ever. As more and more people proliferate online, establishing a vibrant and intuitive digital presence has become essential to businesses.

Simply having a website is no longer enough. To maximize the potential of a website, owners must be cognizant of user experience (UX).

UX encompasses everything from how people navigate on a site to how they come away feeling from the interaction.

In the world of UX, little details matter. If a page, or even just a picture, doesn’t load seamlessly in seconds, users won’t hesitate to leave. Without sufficient calls-to-action, users will bounce, or leave a site after viewing only a page. Capturing and sustaining continued interest is a top priority that must be integrated into a site’s design, front and back end.

Meeting modern UX expectations while still maintaining a robust and flexible platform is a balancing act that Drupal can achieve. An open source framework, Drupal offers unlimited potential for businesses to develop a UX platform to meet their unique needs. With so many paths to choose from, selecting a partner well-versed in Drupal is imperative.

Enter Duo Consulting

Founded in 1999 by CEO Michael Silverman, Duo Consulting initially focused on helping entrepreneurs translate their business plans into viable enterprises. Over time, the company began to pivot more toward digital marketing using the Drupal CMS. This led to Duo shifting again toward Drupal web design, where it now employs an experienced team of developers and managers who specialize in translating clients’ needs into results.

Throughout its history, Duo adapted to the ebb and flow of the consumer landscape. Duo has specialized in Drupal for the past ten years, and throughout this period, clients have consistently returned to the company.

Open Source Defines UX

What makes Drupal such a robust solution for UX is that it’s open source. Contrasted with the guarded secrets of proprietary software, open source systems make their code available to all. This has enabled the Drupal community to create thousands of scalable, modular features that can be customized to fit individual needs.

One of the more striking examples of this flexibility is the process of decoupling Drupal. “Decoupling” Drupal refers to using Drupal for back-end site editing functions while using a completely different framework for front-end navigation.

For example, a site owner could conceivably manage content thought Drupal’s user interface while pushing said content out onto a site with a React or AngularJS front-end experience. Through the decoupling process, Drupal site owners can seamlessly integrate new platforms and technologies to their needs.

FLEXIBILITY THROUGH MODULES

Opting to use a different platform for your front-end CMS is one path to take, but it is possible to create a dynamic UX strategy entirely on Drupal. One of Drupal’s greatest strengths is the community of developers working in the open source ecosystem. Collectively, these developers created a wide array of modules that can be used to craft a unique UX.

Drupal offers users the chance of having their cake and eating it, too. With the right know-how, it’s possible to build a module to fulfill any desired UX feature. For instance, the various forms of the Views module, allow visitors to continuously browse content by generating more items as the user scrolls. For editors, components like the Material Theme and Paragraphs module streamline and simplify the content management process.

Regardless of which path is taken, Drupal offers the means to execute a custom UX vision for any given site. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. Being able to complete a project on Drupal means little if there’s no vision behind the design. A nuanced understanding of UX is needed before embarking on the process of designing or redesigning.
