The Northwestern Department of University Relations provides communications and marketing services to the University's academic and administrative units, as well as builds and manages many sections and departments that are part of the Northwestern University website. University Relations represents and advances Northwestern's reputation and identity as one of the nation's leading teaching and research institutions by providing printed and electronic information to a wide variety of internal and external audiences. The department communicates information about the programs, research, history, and activities of the University to the general public, alumni, media, current and prospective students and their parents, faculty, administration and staff, residents of Evanston and Chicago, leaders in business, industry and government, and current and prospective donors.
Problem
The Department of University Relations at Northwestern University wanted to move from their current content management application to one with an with improved response-time and a user-friendly interface that was capable of managing all types of assets (image files, dynamic content, static content, pdfs, etc.) within the sections/department of their website, as well as handling different web page delivery methods (cfm, jsp). The Department of University Relations at Northwestern University needed assistance in migrating sections of the Northwestern website that existed in Fatwire to their new system called Serena Collage.
Solutions
Duo worked with Northwestern team to integrate existing functionality and migrate content from the Media Relations, Newscenter, Northwestern Magazine, Student Financial Services, Home page and Top Level sections of the website into Serena Collage Content Management System. Collage's features allowed Duo to rebuild and improve existing architecture of the site.
Results
Collage integration allows Northwesters' editors to easily update and create their own content, therefore improving the cycle time of keeping the web content current. Newly built functionality in Collage also allows complete control over web site content including images, documents and news stories. In addition, it gives them full control over navigation and links on the entire website.
