Legacy.com Moving Tributes™ »
Legacy.com is the leading provider of online obituary solutions for the newspaper industry and enhances obituaries with guest books, funeral home information, and florist links, providing a community-oriented, content-rich solution for more than 175 newspapers. The company’s mission is to use new media technology to celebrate people’s lives.
One example of how they achieve this is through their Moving Tributes™ – a service that allows families and friends of dead soldiers to create short, multimedia memorials, viewable by anyone visiting the site.
We knew from the onset of the project that this was not about technology; it was about honoring the memory of a loved one. Our goal was to deliver a tool that let the content of the message shine through without scaring them off with technology they may not understand. The tribute tool was a relatively simple thing for our Duo designers to create, but Legacy.com and the families and friends of the soldiers being honored on the Legacy website have made something purely technical both human and heartwarming.
Alone, the Moving Tributes flash product is simply a shell. Using various web technologies, the application compiles information provided by the user, such as personal photographs, individually written memories, musical accompaniment and even a personal voice narrative, into a Flash movie that is available on the Legacy website.
On Nov. 2, 2005, The Wall Street Journal Online published an article featuring Legacy’s Moving Tributes service. The article says, and we agree, “…if you want to have your heart not just touched but ripped apart, visit the Moving Tributes section of Legacy.com.”
