Freeborn & Peters LLP - Employee Emergency Website

 

Freeborn & Peters LLP is a Chicago-based law firm comprised of more than 120 attorneys dedicated to providing boardroom-level counsel to top executives on a wide range of business and legal matters. The firm focuses on Litigation, Business Law, Bankruptcy, Reorganization and Creditors' Rights, and Government Relations and Regulatory Law.

Problem

Freeborn & Peters needed to establish an Emergency Employee Website (EEW) whereby, in the event the main IT systems become unavailable, Freeborn & Peters employees have a web-based interface to report in and access important information.  

Solutions

  • Information Architecture:  Duo worked with Freeborn & Peters to outline the content for the EEW site and determined the sections of information which would be restricted by user group.
  • Content Management:  Duo implemented a custom web-based application for employees to update contact information and upload time sensitive content for specific departments.  Roles were established for the appropriate information to be maintained by the designated staff.
  • Security:  The EEW application is integrated with Freeborn & Peter’s LDAP server to restrict access accordingly. A local authentication process was established to provide a means for security in the event the LDAP server becomes unavailable.

Results

  • Minimal maintenance – users are authenticated via Freeborn & Peters’ LDAP directory which alleviates additional user administration for the EEW application
  • Secure content – information is available dependent on user group, which ensures the appropriate staff have access to the appropriate information
  • Alternate authentication available in the event the LDAP server becomes unavailable
  • Emergency management assures Freeborn & Peters continuous business processes and reduces the risk of the firm’s failure of operating during and after a disruption

Duo also worked with Freeborn & Peters to overhaul the look and feel of the web site and develop a content management system that allows complete control over attorney biographies, representative cases, practice area descriptions and firm news.
