Are You Ready For INBOUND

INBOUND 2014 is less than one month away, so we here at Duo took a look at Hubspot's “Insider’s Guide to Inbound” and have some tips to make sure you make the most of your Inbound experience. Check them out, and be sure to head over to Inbound.com for the full list of tips and advice.

One of the most important things to realize about Inbound are that there can be up to 30 concurrent sessions happening at one time. That means a couple things for anyone trying to make the most of their Inbound experience. First, plan your time wisely. Make sure you check out the session list before hand and plan on attending the sessions that are most relevant to your business goals. Second, this means divide and conquer. If you’ve come to Inbound with a team collaborate with one another, attend different sessions, and share your insights afterwards.

It also a good idea to brush up on the different types of talks held at Inbound (All of these definitions come direct from Hubspot).

  1. There are Bold Talks or inspirational sessions that are not related to inbound marketing or sales. Generally, they are inspirational, motivational, and will help you become a better professional. You could almost consider these talks to be mini keynote presentations, based on their bold style.

  2. There are Inbound Expert talks about inbound marketing or sales. These are breakout sessions about inbound marketing and inbound sales specifically. If you’re interested in learning more about the inbound methodology or becoming a better marketer or salesperson, definitely attend some of these talks.

  3. Finally there are HubSpot Deep Dives, all about Hubspot as a product. If you’re a HubSpot customer or if you’re interested in learning more about HubSpot’s software, check out the HubSpot Deep Dive talks. These are very technical and get into the nitty gritty of what it’s like to use HubSpot for your business.

Hubspot recruits some amazing speakers to give Keynote presentations at the conference, so be sure to make the most of them. Some of this year’s presenters are Martha Stewart, Simon Sinek, Guy Kawasaki, Brian Halligan and David Meerman Scott.  Be sure to document these presentations in any way possible: take notes by hand, tweeting, recording. Remember, seats fill up fast so get there early! Also, as a courtesy to others, remember to leave your laptop in your bag.

There are a lot of ways to learn at Inbound, and one of the most important ways is through your colleagues. Inbound offers an amazing opportunity to network with thousands of marketers from across the country.Happy Hour, receptions, breaks, and lunch are the perfect time to meet new people and make meaningful connections. Be sure to bring plenty of business cards so that you can stay connected after the conference. Also consider downloading Evernote Hello. The Hubspot Insider Guide has a lot of great suggestions for apps to help you navigate Inbound, but this one looks particularly promising. It allows you to scan business cards and store the information in one convenient place for later.

Last but not least: what should you wear? As Hubspot says, you should do you. Dress in whatever makes you comfortable and shows off your unique personality. But if you’re looking for a little more guidance, or are looking for some business casual ideas blouses, sweaters, turtlenecks, and sleeveless shirt with a collars are all great options for women, while button ups, and polos with or without a blazer are great for men. Don’t forget, September in Boston can get a little chilly so a nice jacket, sweater, peacoat, or trench coat might be a nice option.
