Scott has been working in network administration for 20 years and with Internet companies for 10. He has experience designing and maintaining networks and server farms for high-traffic sites in both the hosting and e-commerce arenas.
“I've always loved solving puzzles, and building a great web platform is a lot like solving a puzzle. If I've done things right, it seems easy enough that anyone could do it.”
“The ever-changing world of technology. When I got started managing servers, management systems and practices were still in their infancy. A new server meant new hardware, and that meant lead times measured in weeks, and costs measured in the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“Today we can manage hardware that we can't physically touch. We can treat infrastructure as if were just another API to write software against. I can bring up an entire 3-tier web platform in 2 hours and it will cost me less than $10 / hour to play with it for as long as I want, then it just disappears.
“And it's only going to get better.”
After earning his Internet wings with a Dot-Com era boom/bust company in the "no warehouse, e-tailing" space, Scott moved on to the large-scale hosting business by becoming a third-tier technician with GTE/Genuity.
Next, he was responsible for the stability and security of large-volume e-commerce sites as the senior system administrator for MusicToday, an online ticketing, merchandise and fan club portal which included websites and stores for the Rolling Stones, the Grateful Dead and the Dave Mathews Band.
In his spare time, Scott hosts Rock Band parties and enjoys making pizza on a semi-professional level.
