“I like how quickly you can build a complex website within a few minutes that has lots of functionality right out of the box, and that there’s a dedicated community always working on it and extending that functionality.”

Experience:

“My work before Duo was very fast-paced. I was always working on lots of different things at same time. I’ve learned how to balance those demands and not freak out -- which is really important for the kind of work I do now.”

What Drives Me:

“Making useful tools (aka websites) for organizations with clear goals -- something that’s usable and performs a real function -- not just pretty. I feel like now lots of businesses are ending the ‘first phase’ of their website, where they put something up without knowing what it was supposed to do. Now they’re hitting the next phase, where they’re ready to create a website with a reason and a purpose, and that’s what Duo’s trying to help our clients do.”

What Inspires Me:

“Good, usable design, a la Don Norman’s The Design of Everyday Things. I like trying to implement good user experience, like the kind of stuff Apple does -- making things that are more pleasant to use. People like to use things that look nice and are nice -- the form is just as important as the function.”

Background:

Prior to joining Duo, Brian worked on a freelance basis developing websites for various clients. He also spent over three years doing a variety of design work for the World Champion Indianapolis Colts.

When not working, Brian enjoys exploring record stores (or the Internet) for new music, watching as many movies as possible and spending as much time as he can with his wife and their ornery dog Toby. Brian proudly hails from the beautiful state of Kentucky, the home of horse-racing, bourbon and the finest college basketball program in the country.
